Eggleston’s Community –Based Day Program is an opportunity for a small group of individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities to engage in community activities and opportunities that promote partnerships and positive relationships in a community setting. Our staff members strive to give people exposure to new life experiences while meeting their individual support needs, interests, and desires. These groups meet at an Eggleston location and from there engage in a variety of activities throughout Hampton Roads. These activities include various forms of recreational wellness, various cultural and social experiences, as well as volunteer opportunities. Our community- based groups are small, with a staff to associate ratio of 1:5. Hours of service are from 10am- 2:30 pm.
Tidewater Drive Life Enhancement Day Support Program is designed to offer functional and meaningful training to adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities. All activities provided through the Life Enhancement program focus on growth in independence and self- actualization. This is achieved by training in the areas of task learning, socialization, communication, behavior development, personal care, environmental awareness and community access. Community activities may include visits to local attractions, fitness centers, shopping trips, eating out at a restaurant, or volunteer activities such as helping with Meals on Wheels, at local libraries, churches, or nursing homes. By assisting people in the development of their skills, abilities and interests through onsite and community-based training, the goal of enhancing these individuals’ lives is continually pursued. Tidewater Drive is able to support individuals who have more significant disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs and those who need assistance with self-care. Staffing is offered at a 1:5 ratio.
The hours of program operation are offered 8:00 am to 3:00 pm or 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. This program is located at 6431 Tidewater Drive in Norfolk.
The Civitan Acres Wellness Program is designed for individuals who desire a year round day program based on improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. Civitan is located on a 14-acre camp property and is a great program for individuals who like to be outdoors and participate in a variety of activities that focus on health and wellness. Individuals participate in a variety of community based activities such as visiting local attractions, fitness centers, shopping trips, eating out at a restaurant; as well as volunteer opportunities such as Meals on Wheels, Adopt-A-Spot, and recycling cans to earn money for outings. We also focus on healthy eating with cooking demos once a week and physical fitness with Zumba and dancing weekly. Everyone at Eggleston looks forward to summertime and the opening of our swimming pool at Civitan! In the last year, Eggleston has increased the accessibility of our swimming pool to individuals with physical limitations by adding both a mounted pool lift device and a rolling Hoyer lift. Staffing is offered at a 1:5 ratio.
We currently have openings for individuals in our 8 AM to 3 PM group and our 10 AM to 3PM group. The individuals must be ambulatory and transportation is provided within some areas of Chesapeake and Norfolk. Civitan Acres is located at 2210 Cedar Road in Chesapeake.
Tanners Creek Day Support is Eggleston’s most active day support program. These individuals go out into the community as many as four times per week. Staffing is offered at a 1:7 ratio. Tanners Creek caters to individuals who are ambulatory, active, and like to socialize with their peers. All activities provided through Tanners Creek focus on growth in independence and becoming a valued member of the community. This is achieved by training in the areas of socialization, communication, behavior development, personal care, aerobic exercise and community integration. By assisting people in the development of their skills, abilities and interests through onsite and community-based training’s, the goal of enhancing these individuals’ lives is continually pursued.
The hours of program operation are offered 8:00 am to 1:30 pm or 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Tanners Creek is located at 110 La Vallete Ave. in Norfolk.
The Senior Adult Day Services are offered in both Hampton and Norfolk. These programs are designed to offer functional and age appropriate supports to adults with intellectual or other developmental disabilities who are at least 50 years of age and/or exhibit early onset of dementia and/or other age-related disabilities. Individuals in this program are offered community integration, recreation, arts and crafts and self-help training opportunities that focus on maintaining independence and personal health. This is achieved by specialized attention and training in the areas of coping skills, socialization, communication, behavior development, reality based orientation, personal care, environmental awareness and community access. Community activities may include visits to local attractions, fitness centers, shopping trips, eating out at a restaurant, or volunteer activities such as helping with Meals on Wheels. We believe that assisting people in maintaining their skills, abilities and interests at any age creates the capacity to thrive, not merely survive. Aging is a normal part of the life cycle, bringing changes that challenge us to grow. The Hampton Seniors Program is located at the Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Foundation at 51 Battle Road. The hours of program operation are 8:30 to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
The Norfolk Seniors Program is located at 6431 Tidewater Drive. The hours of program operation are 8:00 am to 3:00 pm or 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
The Community Employment Division of Eggleston Services offers Supported Employment Services at community based work sites. Community Employment provides vocational assessments, vocational training, and other support services to adults with disabilities and other work barriers in real work settings. Employees are taught various career-related skills necessary for a variety of job markets such as administrative support, customer service, hospitality, custodial services, auto cleaning/detailing, horticulture, retail, and medical fields. In addition to learning how to perform various tasks and work duties, employees are helped to develop soft skills such as punctuality, dependability, attention to task, concern for quality workmanship, proper care of materials, attention to personal appearance, acceptance of instruction and supervision, and peer relationships. The hours of program operation are scheduled conductive to consumer needs. Placements are all at community-based businesses. Candidates must be eligible for Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS). If DARS funding is not available, there must be documentation that supported employment services cannot be obtained from DARS.
The Hampton Life Enhancement Day Support Program is designed to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities through a social network of friends, a caring staff and meaningful and stimulating activities. This program helps those who attend to develop and balance the emotional, intellectual, and physical dimensions of their lives. The Hampton Day Support Program is unique in that it primarily supports individuals who are on the Autism Spectrum. The program is separated in to small classrooms of four to nine individuals with a one to four staff to associate ratio to better cater to each individual’s support needs. This program is located at the Sarah Bonwell Hudgins Foundation Campus which allows access to many outdoor areas, basketball court, swimming pool, and gymnasium.
